January 2nd, 2013 - Learn a card illusion

Yes, I said card illusion.  Like GOB taught us on Arrested Development, a trick is something a whore does for money.

I remember being mesmerized as a child whenever the new David Copperfield special came on TV.  It was a family event, with my parents and my brother and I glued in our spots as Mr. Copperfield levitated and made things disappear.  Hell, the guy even went THROUGH the Great Wall of China (while I've been known to trip up revolving doors).  He was a consummate showman, and I was so envious of him and his warlock abilities.

Slight of hand is an art form, and the truly great practitioners of it still impress me.  David Blaine's early stuff (before he showcased his talent for just standing around) is enough, in my mind, for him to qualify for a doctoral dissertation at Hogwarts.  My love of magic isn't helped for my deep admiration for all things nerd.  You are, after all, reading a blog by a guy that wrote JK Rowling a thank-you note after finishing book 7.

So, stemming from that love of magic, I decided that today I would learn a card illusion.  And while I am not ready for the Vegas strip...yeah I've got nothing, I'm still really bad at this.  Apparently being a warlock takes practice.  Who knew?!
