January 5th, 2013 - Attempt a half court shot

I have never claimed to be an athlete.  Yes, I played sports in school, but purely in a technical sense.  I wore a uniform and ran around on a court or field with similarly dressed people.  And while I might have had some fleeting success here and there, none of this success came anywhere close to a basketball court.  In fact, I have often thought that if the world depended on me winning a game of basketball, then we are all doomed.  Sorry y'all, we had a good run, but it isn't going to work out.

That being said, I am a fan of sports, and I love going to games of any kind.  And I've always wanted to take part in one of the events that take place during a time out or half time.   Race around the bases to win a prize, or throw a football through a target to get tickets to the next game.  Or, and this is where this blog comes in to play, make a half court shot for $1000.

Thanks to my friend and co-worker Joe Cristy, I was able to take part in the Shoot for Cash promotion during today's HPU women's basketball game against Gardner-Webb.  First, I got a chance to shoot as many three pointers as I could in 30 seconds.  Each shot was worth $25 if I made one.

So if anyone would like to donate $25 to the Lars Farabee fund, I could use it.

Next, I attempted a half court shot.  If I made it, I would be $1000 richer.  I stepped up...

And promptly missed.

Oh well.  Sometimes you win, and sometimes you miss every shot in front of a crowd of strangers.  At least I had a fun time doing it, and that has to count for something.

$1000 would have counted for something too.  Wow, I really suck at basketball.
