I'm getting older now, and I'm starting to realize that I need to take better care of myself. I'm getting married next year, and I have to make sure people know why my lovely bride is standing up there with me. I don't want to them to think "Well...maybe he's funny," or, "Hmmm, he must be really nice." So healthy decisions are the name of the game now. This includes eating better and exercising more. I've started standing at my desk while at work (I'm only 2 days in, but so far I'm really digging it). I've cut out drinking during the week, and I've cut back on junk food (don't worry, Nacho Cheese Doritos, I'll see you after the wedding).
In keeping with this kick, today I thought that I would do something healthy. According to the Intertron, adults should try to drink half their body weight in ounces of water each day. That means that I should be drinking...cough, hrmph, hrmph, cough...ok, let's just call it a lot of water and leave it at that. Today, I'll say a gallon for measuring purposes. I had to use an actual gallon jug of water, as my Nalgene was last seen floating down the Sandy River in Farmington, ME, filled with a mixture of whiskey, vodka, and some kind of fruit punch. Hence the decision to get healthy.
Yes, that's a Nerf gun on my desk. How else am I supposed to deal with subordinates?
I started right at 8:30am with the beginning of the work day. And here were my thoughts throughout the day:
9:36am
Wow, this isn't so bad, I think I can do this!
9:46am
First pee break.
10:21am
Half-way done with the gallon! It's not as bad I thought it was going to be. I thought that I was going to have to install a urinal in my office!
10:29am
Where's that urinal when I need it...
11:00am
Yup really should have installed the urinal before trying this...
11:55am
Ok, who needs a urinal, I will just avoid that corner of my office from now on...
12:36pm
FINISHED THE GALLON!
12:37pm
I realize now that I was supposed to drink this throughout the day. My bladder hates me.
Wow, that went faster than I thought it would...everyone say "That's what she said"? Good.
Mission accomplished on drinking the recommended amount of water for a day! While I have been running to the bathroom all morning (and I am willing to bet that this will continue well into the evening), it hasn't been an unpleasant experience. In fact, I would like to start doing this every day.
I know that it's sad that one of my "new things" on this blog was something that I should have been doing a long time ago. I should have been taking care of myself this whole time, and instead it kinda got away from me. The good news is that I have some incentive now. The first 28 years of my life were great, I can't argue with that. But I feel like now I'm getting to the really good stuff. And I'm excited for it, and I want to be around for every single second of it.
Expect for right now. Right now, I just have to pee.
I too have a Nerf gun in my drawer. Must be a university services thing! haha
ReplyDeleteAlso, I drink about 3 large bottles of water a day, plus coffee and tea. Hydration is key. And the pee breaks mean at least a small break from the monotony of being in front of a computer. :)
